DETROIT (AP) - The former chief of staff to ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is expected to walk free sometime early Monday after spending more than two months jail for obstruction of justice.

A judge ruled Friday that Christine Beatty’s participation in a Wayne County Jail work program allowed her to leave prior to an April 15 release date.

Beatty testified that she folded sheets and other linen because she understood jail officials would take time off her sentence.

She pleaded guilty in December and began her sentence Jan. 6. Beatty and one-time lover Kilpatrick were accused of lying on the stand during a civil trial about their relationship and roles in the firing of a police official.

Kilpatrick was released Feb. 3 after serving 99 days in jail.
