WASHINGTON (AP) - Joe Biden said that while he did not seek out the vice presidency, a moment at the Democratic National Convention in Denver between his granddaughters and President Barack Obama’s daughters erased any doubt he had about taking the job.

He said his 10-year-old granddaughter Finnegan grabbed him and requested a sleepover with Obama’s daughters, Malia and Sasha. A room was cleared out for more than a half dozen kids. The kids had popcorn and watched television.

Biden said, as he left the children in the room “I didn’t have any doubt after that why the hell I took this job, why I was running.”

“It sounds corny. But I mean it,” Biden said. “Because you and I know every single major decision on Barack’s plate, if left unattended, will get worse.”

Biden told the story to about 250 donors and supporters at a thank-you event in at the Corcoran Gallery of Art hosted by the Democratic National Committee.
