SAMSON, ALA. (AP) - Hundreds of people have gathered at a south Alabama church to remember four of the 10 people slain during a shooting rampage last week.
The victims remembered Tuesday were relatives of gunman Michael McLendon, 28. He shot them while they chatted on a front porch in the town of Samson.
Pastors urged mourners to make the town known for love rather than violence. Four hearses led a long funeral procession through town.
The service was held for McLendon’s grandmother, 74-year-old Virginia Ett Wise White; his uncle, 55-year-old James Alford White; a 34-year-old cousin, Tracy Michelle Wise; and her 15-year-old son, Dean James Wise.
Authorities say McLendon went on the 24-mile shooting spree that ended in his suicide because he was depressed over his failures in life.
