CLEARWATER, FLA. (AP) - Brett Myers struck out seven in 5 2-3 shutout innings and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Cincinnati Reds 8-1 on Tuesday.

Myers allowed four hits and walked none, strengthening his case to start on opening day if ace Cole Hamels can’t go. Hamels has been bothered by elbow tightness this spring.

Aaron Harang had a rough outing for the Reds, surrendering six runs and seven hits in 3 1-3 innings.

Phillies second baseman Chase Utley went 0-for-2 with two walks in his second spring game.
