JUPITER, FLA. (AP) - Chris Carpenter pitched six scoreless innings in the St. Louis Cardinals’ 3-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday and has not allowed a run in 14 innings this spring.

Carpenter missed most of the last two seasons with arm and shoulder trouble. But in his fourth start of the spring, he turned in the Cardinals’ longest outing so far. Seventeen of the 18 outs Carpenter recorded came via groundball or strikeout.

Adam Eaton, in a bid to join the Orioles’ rotation, issued a four-pitch walk to Skip Schumaker to start the first inning, followed by a Chris Duncan single to left field. But Eaton allowed only one base runner after the first and faced the minimum nine batters in his final three innings.
