LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities in Los Angeles say they have found the body of a toddler believed to be an 18-month-old girl whose mother reported her missing under unusual circumstances.

The case has been turned over to homicide detectives.

Los Angeles police spokeswoman Aura Sierra says the girl’s mother told authorities that she was knocked unconscious Wednesday afternoon at a park in Lancaster while she was putting her daughter, Emma Leigh Barker, in a car seat.

The woman said that when she woke up Emma was missing.

Sierra says the mother did not report her daughter missing to sheriff’s deputies until 9 a.m. Thursday.

The body was found in the Mission Hills area of Los Angeles, about a 50-mile drive from Lancaster.
