WASHINGTON (AP) - The Democratic National Committee says it raised $3.2 million in February.

The party also was reporting to the Federal Election Commission that it has $8.6 million on hand and $7 million in debt.

Democrats attribute the small collection to several factors. Obama hasn’t done fundraisers yet; his first is next week. The party also says it has not used Obama’s 13-million strong e-mail list to raise money in earnest. And, party chairman Tim Kaine is Virginia’s governor and was in Richmond for much of the month during the legislative session.
