MIAMI (AP) - Syracuse made Stephen F. Austin’s first NCAA trip a short one.

Jonny Flynn scored 16 points, Rick Jackson and Arinze Onuaku each added 12 and the third-seeded Orange beat the Lumberjacks 59-44 on Friday in a South regional first-round matchup.

Paul Harris had a game-high 16 rebounds and Eric Devendorf scored 10 points for Syracuse (27-9), which ran out to a 20-4 lead and eased to its first NCAA win in five years. The Orange will meet either Arizona State or Temple in Sunday’s second round.

Benson Akpan led Stephen F. Austin (24-8) with 12 points. The Southland Conference champion Lumberjacks missed 12 of their first 13 shots, plus started 0-for-15 from 3-point range.
