TEMPLE HILLS, Md. (AP) — A Prince George’s County police sergeant who was among 14 officers who opened fire on an armed man outside a Temple Hills bar has been involved in two previous shootings.
Sgt. Samuel Hooper was one of two officers who exchanged gunfire with a robbery suspect outside a Forestville convenience store in 1996, injuring the man. And in 2006, he was one of three officers who shot and wounded two suspects after the suspects’ vehicle pinned one of the officers against another vehicle.
Maj. Andrew Ellis, chief spokesman for the Prince George’s County Police Department, confirmed that Hooper was involved in the two previous shootings and said none of the other officers had been involved in a previous shooting.
More than a dozen police officers are on leave following Tuesday’s shooting.
