MOSCOW (AP) - Russia’s president has promised full funding for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi despite the country’s financial crisis, and upbraided officials for bureaucratic delays in getting projects under way.

Dmitry Medvedev also said on Monday that Russia must improve its anti-doping laboratories in the face of drug scandals among the country’s athletes over the past year.

He spoke at a meeting with athletes at a training center in Sochi, according to the state-run RIA-Novosti news agency.

Russia won the bid to host the games despite concerns about the country’s economic stability and the vast amount of construction that would be needed to transform the Black Sea resort region into a world-class sports venue.
