Some facts about U.S. pork exports:

_ Approximately 24.4 percent of total U.S. pork production was exported in 2008.

_ About 2 million metric tons of U.S. pork valued at $4.9 billion was exported in 2008, compared to 564,000 metric tons valued at $1.2 billion in 1999.

_ Pork exports set a monthly record in October 2008 at $487 million.

_ Export value equated to $42.31 per head of each hog processed in 2008 compared to $29.16 in 2007. Export value to Japan, the largest market, equated to $13.40 per head.
