JERUSALEM (AP) - Israeli police say Palestinian militants have fired a rocket into Israel from Gaza after several days of quiet.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says the rocket landed near the city of Ashkelon, causing no casualties.

No Palestinian group took responsibility for Tuesday’s attack.

Palestinian militants have continued firing rockets into Israel since Israel’s offensive against Gaza’s Hamas rulers ended on Jan. 18.

Israel has responded with air strikes against smuggling tunnels. The violence has tapered off in recent weeks.

Hamas has not assumed responsibility for the attacks, some of which have been claimed by smaller militant groups. Israel says Hamas bears responsibility because it controls the territory.
