KHARTOUM, SUDAN (AP) - A Sudanese newspaper says the country’s president, sought by an international court on charges of war crimes in Darfur, will not attend this week’s Arab League summit in Qatar.

The 22-member Arab League has already said it would not enforce the International Criminal Court’s arrest order for President Omar al-Bashir issued on March 4 and the Sudanese leader visited Eritrea, Egypt and Libya over the past week in a show of defiance.

The tiny Gulf nation of Qatar, which is hosting the summit beginning Monday, has invited al-Bashir to attend. But Akhir Lahza, a newspaper close to the Sudanese government, reported Sunday that he will not go.

Sudanese Foreign Ministry official Ali Youssef would not confirm the report.
