DETROIT (AP) - General Motors Corp. says it will decide by Tuesday whether to sell or dispose of its iconic Hummer brand.

The automaker told the federal government in February that the decision would be made by the end of the first quarter.

GM put the money-losing Hummer brand up for sale last June as it tried to shrink itself to become profitable again. The company says it is talking to several possible buyers.

GM is living on $13.4 billion in government loans and is seeking another $16.6 billion. The Hummer decision is part of its plan to justify the loans and prove that it can repay the government.

President Obama is expected to announce his plans for the auto industry on Monday.
