TRENTON REGION

No. 1 Connecticut 77, No. 4 California 53: All season long the Huskies have been on cruise control, dominating opponents with double-digit victory margins.

Sunday was no different; it just took a while.

Freshman Tiffany Hayes scored a career-high 28 points as undefeated Connecticut rallied to beat the Golden Bears in a regional semifinal in Trenton, N.J.



The Huskies will face Arizona State on Tuesday night with a trip to the Final Four at stake.

“As time went on, the true character of this team came out,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma said. “I love the way we handled the game in the second half. That was classic Connecticut basketball.”

UConn (36-0) continued its march toward the school’s third perfect season.

No. 6 Arizona State 84, No. 2 Texas A&M 69: The expected defensive battle turned into a shootout, and the Sun Devils had a little too much for the Aggies.

Briann January scored 22 points, and Arizona State scorched Texas A&M’s pressing defense like no one else this season in posting a victory to reach its second regional final in school history.

OKLA. CITY REGION

No. 1 Oklahoma 70, No. 4 Pittsburgh 59: Freshman Whitney Hand is doing all she can to bring the Sooners that national title that Courtney Paris guaranteed.

Hand set new career highs with 22 points and eight rebounds, and the Sooners (31-5) rolled to a win over the Panthers in Oklahoma City to reach the regional finals for only the second time in school history.

No. 6 Purdue 67, No. 7 Rutgers 61: Lakisha Freeman scored 18 points, and the Boilermakers held off a late rally to beat the Scarlet Knightsand advance to the regional final.

FahKara Malone hit a key basket in the final minute, and Jodi Howell added the clinching free throws with 6.2 seconds left for Purdue.
