Oliver North is so frightened at the prospect that some Guantanamo detainees may be moved to the United States that he may lose control of himself (“The Gitmo quagmire,” Opinion, Sunday).

Mr. North is so concerned with the threat that some of the 200 or so detainees may pose to our safety and security that he ignores other threats much closer to home. There are thousands of people running loose in this country who belong to not-so-safety-friendly groups - MS-13, Aryan Nations, Hell’s Angels, Animal Liberation Front, Earth Liberation Front, etc. - and who pose a real and immediate threat to our safety and security.

We have supermaximum prisons where we can put the worst of the worst. How dare Mr. North insult our military personnel by suggesting that we couldn’t secure these detainees in a facility on a secure military installation such as Fort Leavenworth. Does he think they are more secure on an installation that can be overrun, at a moment’s notice, by the hostile government of Cuba?
