ANALYSIS/OPINION:

LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

“I felt he was too far from the mainstream to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court” (“Looking good, stripes and all,” Letters, Thursday). Mr. Bork evidently told a group that a permanent or transient majority in a community could impose its values on everyone, in defiance of the Constitution. This appalled Mr. Doerr.

What does Mr. Doerr think President Obama is doing right now? Does he think Mr. Obama’s appointments and actions will come from the mainstream, whatever that is? I think not. Mr. Obama definitely represents a transient majority - and not an enormous one at that.
