Country club membership? No need. The District and - even more so - neighboring Maryland and Virginia jurisdictions offer dozens of free or low-cost public golf courses, tennis courts and swimming pools - most of which opened this past weekend.

A District favorite with gorgeous views is the swimming pool in East Potomac Park, a 300-acre peninsula between the Washington Channel and the Potomac River. The pool, located at 972 Ohio Drive SW, is open from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through Sept. 7.

Along with the swimming pool, which is free for District residents, the park also offers tennis courts, minigolf, an 18-hole golf course (which has a small cafe and a liquor license) and playgrounds.
