No. 16 OHIO ST. 72, J. MADISON 44: Evan Turner followed up his triple-double with 24 points and 17 rebounds, and the host Buckeyes (2-0) recovered from a listless spell to beat the Dukes (0-1) on Thursday night in the 2K Sports Classic in Columbus, Ohio.

David Lighty added 14 points and William Buford had 12 for Ohio State, which moves on to meet sixth-ranked defending national champion North Carolina in the semifinals Thursday night in Madison Square Garden.

Turner had the program’s second recorded triple-double in Monday night’s opener, going for 14 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists in a 100-60 win over Alcorn State.

Pierre Curtis had nine points for James Madison, which was 21-15 last season.

N.C. STATE 69, GEORGIA ST. 53: Tracy Smith had 18 points and 11 rebounds to help the Wolfpack beat the Panthers at home in the season opener for both teams in Raleigh, N.C.

Julius Mays scored 14 of his 16 points after halftime for N.C. State, which shook off a bad shooting night and the stubborn Panthers to win its opener for the 16th straight season.
