ANALYSIS/OPINION:

It is almost amusing to hear Republican leaders - be it Rep. Peter T. King, New York Republican, or Sen. Christopher S. Bond, Missouri Republican - spit and sputter over bringing Sept. 11 criminals to the scene of the crime for their long-awaited justice (“5 suspects to be tried in New York City,” E-Edition, Page 1, Saturday). I’m starting to think that Republicans live in a constant state of fear. Do they really believe that the most powerful nation on Earth is incapable of handling, prosecuting and convicting five known terrorists while keeping the local citizenry safe?

Relax, Mr. King and Mr. Bond. The incompetence in government departed on Jan. 20.

Mr. King and Mr. Bond need not fear the terrorists, who cannot destroy America and her ideals. They should fear themselves, as they are the ones with the power to bring the Founders’ dream to ruin by sowing anxiety in citizens who revere the Constitution.
