MEN

VIRGINIA 76, CLEVELAND ST. 65: Sylven Landesberg scored 20 points and Will Sherrill came off the bench to add 18, including 15 in the second half, to lead the Cavaliers to a victory over the Vikings on Wednesday night in Cancun, Mexico.

Virginia (4-2) rallied from a 10-point, second-half deficit to finish in third at the Cancun Classic.

Cleveland State (3-3), which lost both of its games in the tournament, extended its lead to 39-29 at the 17:33 mark. The Cavaliers hit three straight baskets to cut the lead to 41-38 with 15:13 left before Sherrill tied the score at 46-46 on a 3-pointer with 12:13 remaining.

Virginia took the lead for good on Mike Scott’s dunk and another 3-pointer from Sherrill.

Jeremy Montgomery led Cleveland State with 14 points. Aaron Pogue added 13 points, and Norris Cole scored 12.

Scott added 15 points, Mustapha Farrakhan had 11 and Sammy Zeglinski finished with 10 points for Virginia.

MANHATTAN 69, AMERICAN 62: Freshman Mike Bersch scored a season-high 16 points as the Eagles dropped to 0-6 with a loss to Manhattan (3-2) at Bender Arena.

FAIRFIELD 81, HOWARD 60: The Stags (4-1) went on a 21-0 run early in the first half, cruising to an easy victory over the Bison (0-6) at Burr Gymnasium.

WOMEN

VIRGINIA TECH 78, RADFORD 51: Lindsay Biggs scored 22 points as the Hokies (3-2) overcame a sluggish first half to beat the Highlanders (0-3) in Radford, Va.

GEORGETOWN 94, C. MICHIGAN 69: The Hoyas led most of the game and finished with a 16-1 run as they cruised past the Chippewas in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

HOWARD 58, JACKSONVILLE 42: Zykia Brown scored 12 of her game-high 16 points in the second half to help the Bison (1-3) win their first game of the season by beating the Dolphins (1-4) at Burr Gymnasium.
