How did you get started in real estate? My father was a real estate broker. He encouraged me to get my real estate license because he believed it would be a good “portable” career that I could easily transfer as the Air Force moved my husband and our family from place to place. Fortunately, I only had to move my career once - 27 years ago, when I came to Northern Virginia from Little Rock, Ark.

How long have you been with the current company? Since 1987

Licenses and designations: Associate broker, licensed in Virginia; accredited buyer representative; certified residential specialist; certified relocation professional; certified distressed property expert; graduate, Real Estate Institute

Associations: National Association of Realtors, Northern Virginia Association of Realtors, Employee Relocation Council, Distressed Property Institute, Council of Real Estate Specialists

Awards: RE/MAX Circle of Legends, RE/MAX Chairman’s Club, RE/MAX Diamond Club, Top 100 RE/MAX International

Greatest accomplishment in the past 12 months: Keeping my team members motivated and profitable during a major real estate downturn

Area of specialty: Fairfax Station and southern Fairfax County; sellers, buyers and relocation

Highest-priced home sold: $3,000,000

Most memorable house: A gorgeous 12,000-square-foot home that had been meticulously created by the original owner. No expense had been spared on any of the appointments or the grounds. Everything was perfect.

Worst experience buying or selling a house: I had a seller who was so distraught about moving from the home he shared with his partner that he perpetually drank away his sorrows. He was so inebriated the night before he was to vacate that he passed out, leaving us to finish his packing. We had to pack up his private belongings and relocate him to a hotel prior to the buyer’s pre-settlement walk through, then had to pick him up at the hotel for his closing to ensure he would show up.

Family: Husband, Dave, who is also a licensed real estate professional; son, Eric, who is a Realtor and real estate investor in Richmond; two grandsons, Dylan and Jack; and daughter, Deidre, who is a health insurance broker

Pets: Two miniature Schnauzers and a Shiba Inu

Outside interests: Family, friends, travel, skiing, boating and cooking

Last book read: “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini

Last movie seen: “Up”

What kind of car do you drive? 1997 Mercedes-Benz diesel sedan and a 2005 CLK convertible

Describe your personal dream house: Open spaces, big rooms with high ceilings, loads of windows and light, big upscale kitchen, warm and inviting gathering areas and spacious owner’s retreat with huge closet space - all in a serene and private location
