In what doubtless was meant to be a rhetorical question, The Washington Times posed the query, “What if Kevin Jennings were a Republican?” (“Sex scandal double standard,” Opinion, Tuesday). To embellish the point, the editorial first references media coverage of former Republican Rep. Mark Foley’s page escapades as an example of a “blizzard of coverage.” It then goes on to laud the Fox News Channel as the sole media outlet willing to investigate current allegations of misfeasance on the part of Mr. Jennings, President Obama’s “safe schools czar.”

Fortunately, your editorial question need not remain rhetorical, as we have a definitive answer. While the Foley affair was breaking, on Oct. 3, 2006, that same Fox News Channel, on its highest-rated show, “The O’Reilly Factor,” labeled Mr. Foley a Democrat - on three occasions. A retraction was not issued.

So, what if Mr. Jennings were a Republican? Presumably Fox News would simply insist that he was a Democrat.
