ANALYSIS/OPINION:

Eli Lake reports that President Obama agrees to keep Israel’s nuclear arsenal a secret (“Obama keeps Israel’s secret, won’t push for nuke disclosure,” Page 1, Friday). Of course, it is an open secret that Israel possesses 200 or so nuclear warheads. From the point of view of developing countries, the main take-away lesson from the harsh treatment of Iran and the leniency displayed to Israel, India and Pakistan is that it makes little sense for any developing countries to enter into future arms-control treaties - such as the nonproliferation treaty - with the nuclear-armed states.
