ANALYSIS/OPINION:

Rep. Joe Wilson’s shout of “You lie!” at President Obama was a disgrace. He apologized to the president, and that was just. However, his refusal to apologize to the Congress, where the transgression occurred, is wrong. He brought disgrace on his colleagues in Congress, and for that reason, he owes them an apology as well.

There are proper forums for expressing disagreement with the administration. The floor of a joint session of Congress is not one of them. Mr. Wilson has opened a door that will lead to further deterioration in the decorum and civility of Congress. He should do what he can to close that door: apologize and move on.
