LOS ANGELES (AP) - Films starring Demi Moore, Emma Roberts, John C. Reilly and Vera Farmiga are among those competing for prizes at the Sundance Film Festival, the nation’s top showcase for independent cinema.

Farmiga makes her directing debut and stars in “Higher Ground,” about a woman struggling with her faith. She won an acting award from Sundance for 2004’s “Down to the Bone.”

“Higher Ground” is one of 16 in competition for U.S. dramas at Sundance, which runs Jan. 20-30 in Park City, Utah.

Other U.S. drama contenders announced Wednesday include the family wedding story “The Reasonable Bunch,” featuring Moore, Kate Bosworth and Ellen Barkin; and the teen tales “Homework,” with Roberts and Freddie Highmore, and “Terri,” with Reilly and Jacob Wysocki.
