It has been said that a conservative is a liberal who has been mugged by reality. President Obama has just been mugged and all the cobwebs clouding his thinking about our nation’s security have been cleared away thanks to a Nigerian terrorist wearing exploding underwear.

Prior to this botched attempt to kill Americans, the president was hoping to transform the deep-seated differences dividing America from her enemies through the force of his personality. He was hoping the malevolent ambitions of the world’s despots would simply melt away, ushering in an era of peace that had eluded previous administrations. By traveling the world and apologizing for his country, the president thought he couldstem the rising tide of terror and hatred toward America.

But a failed attempt to blow up a U.S. airliner over Detroit has shattered these delusions. So transformative was the event that Mr. Obama is now using the word “terrorism.”One can only wonder what it will take for him to wise up and change course on the economy.
