How did you get started in real estate? I always loved looking at homes. My mom was a real estate agent (but only lasted a year), and I thought we could work together. I took the real estate course while working full time and my children were young. I started small with family and friends, and after some years, the referrals began to snowball.

How long have you been with the current company? 20 years

Licenses and designations: Virginia real estate license

Associations: Northern Virginia Association of Realtors (NVAR)

Awards: NVAR Multi-Million Dollar Sales Club Top Producer, Weichert Chairman of the Board or Chairman of the Board Elite Club Award each year since 2003

Greatest accomplishment in the past 12 months: The blending of my success with the success of the community.

What is your area of specialty? I know all of Northern Virginia quite well, including outlying counties, as I have lived in various parts throughout my life. I have lived in Springfield the longest, therefore probably know that best of all.

Highest-priced home sold: Just under $1,000,000

Most memorable home: An elderly gentleman’s town house in Reston that we transformed with improvements and staging. I had the family involved: My husband installed a ceramic tile backsplash, I did some painting, my mom and I shopped for home improvements and did the staging. A local agent couldn’t believe it was the same house for which she had sought the listing. Oh, and then there was that rental I showed with a slight humidity problem - there were mushrooms growing in he family room carpet.

Describe your worst experience buying or selling a house: Definitely one of my worst experiences was with a short-sale listing in Chantilly. The bank ended up relisting the house for $148,000 and it sold for $148,000 - less than our buyer had offered.

Age: 55

Family: Husband, Don; daughters Rebecca, 20, and Michelle, 15

Pets: Dogs Tink (part time since she belongs to my older daughter) and Tasha

Education: West Springfield High School graduate, 1972; bachelor’s degree in accounting from George Mason University, 1983. (My degree took a little while; I went to school part time for many years while working.)

Community affiliations/community service/outside interests: I am involved with SOAR (Spartans Organized for Action on Renovation), a small, but vocal group working hard to get West Springfield High School renovated before, or by, its 50th birthday. I also am involved with the West Springfield School-Business Partnership, a group of school administrators and small-business people working together to help children in our local schools. I sponsor a community cleanup twice a year in my neighborhood of Westview Hills and Keene Mill Manor. I also try to send out a neighborhood newsletter about once a month. As for outside interests, who has time for that? I enjoy going to the beach, going to Florida and getting away (usually somewhere warm) because that is the only time I don’t work as much.

Last book read: “Big Stone Gap” by Adriana Trigiani

Last movie seen: All the way through? I typically fall asleep soon after I stop moving. I did get through most of “Australia” on DVD fairly recently.

What kind of car do you drive? 2010 Toyota Sienna minivan. Even though my kids are grown, I don’t ever want to give up the minivan.

Describe your personal dream house: I actually love my house. It’s a little 1960s rambler with some additions. I have my main-level bedrooms for my old age, and my commute is great since my office is downstairs overlooking the pool! I wouldn’t mind having a second home at the beach.
