D.C. authorities have evacuated a high-rise office building near Union Station where a suspicious package with white powder was found.

Fire department spokesman Pete Piringer said an envelope with a white powder was found at 750 First St. NE about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Piringer said officials evacuated offices and called the fire department.

He said there are no reports of injuries or illness and a hazardous materials team is staged nearby as they investigate the package.

The 700 block of First Street is closed to traffic.
