Democrats are claiming a narrow victory in a House of Delegates special election in Fairfax County.

Unofficial election results show Democrat Eileen Filler-Corn won by a 37-vote margin out of more than 11,000 ballots cast. With all precincts counted, Mr. Filler-Corn had 50.1 percent of the vote.

The Republican, Kerry Bolognese, did not concede Tuesday night and can request a recount under state law because of the narrow margin of victory.

The winner replaces Democrat David Marsden, who won a special election to the state Senate.

The district includes parts of central Fairfax County and is considered a swing district. Voters there supported Republican Robert F. McDonnell by a 10-point margin in last year’s gubernatorial race.
