UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — Federal authorities have charged nine people, including three Prince George’s County police officers, in two federal indictments.

Seven people, including two of the officers, were charged with conspiring to commit extortion in a scheme involving the transport and distribution of untaxed cigarettes and alcohol in an indictment unsealed Monday. A third officer and another man have been charged in a second indictment with a drug and gun conspiracy.

FBI spokesman Richard Wolf described the arrests as part of an ongoing investigation in the county. He declined to confirm whether the arrests are related to last week’s arrest of Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson, who has been charged with witness and evidence tampering in a federal investigation of bribery involving a developer.
