LOS ANGELES (AP) - James Conlon has extended his contract as music director of the Los Angeles Opera by two years through 2013.

LA Opera general director Placido Domingo made the announcement Monday.

Conlon became music director for the 2006-07 season and extended his contract in September 2007 through 2011, the company’s 25th anniversary.

He conducted the LA Opera’ first Ring Cycle this year and received two Grammy Awards for conducting the company’s productions of Weill’s “Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny.”

Conlon also has been music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Ravinia Festival since 2005. He is a past principal conductor of the Paris Opera (1995-04), general music director of the City of Cologne (1989-02) and music director of the Rotterdam Philharmonic (1983-91).
