WASHINGTON | Washington voters have elected D.C. Council chairman Vincent Gray mayor, a result that had been expected for more than a month after he won the city’s September primary.

Voters on Tuesday picked Gray, who had no Republican opponent. Gray beat incumbent mayor Adrian Fenty during September’s Democratic primary.

Voters picked Kwame Brown to replace Gray as the head of the D.C. Council and sent Democrat Eleanor Holmes Norton back to the U.S. House as the city’s delegate.
