WASHINGTON (AP) — Authorities say a water main break has closed a portion of Pennsylvania Avenue in downtown Washington.

Pamela Mooring, a spokeswoman for District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority, says the street was closed Tuesday morning between Washington Circle and 21st Street. Also closed was 22nd Street, between I and K streets.

Mooring says crews are working to repair the 12-inch water main, which was installed in 1858.
