CLEVELAND (AP) - Manny Ramirez is hitless in two at-bats of his long-awaited debut for the Chicago White Sox.

After grounding out to shortstop his first time up, Ramirez struck out looking to end the fourth inning on Wednesday.

Ramirez seemed fooled by a curve ball on the outside corner by Cleveland’s Carlos Carrasco. After fanning, Ramirez removed his helmet and walked back to Chicago’s dugout.

Leading off the second in his first at-bat for the White Sox, he fouled off a few pitches and grounded out. Criticized in the past for not hustling, Ramirez ran hard to first base before being thrown out.

Ramirez was claimed on waivers from the Dodgers and is batting fifth _ between Paul Konerko and Mark Teahen _ as the designated hitter in manager Ozzie Guillen’s lineup for the series finale. Ramirez joined the White Sox on Tuesday, but only got as far as the on-deck circle to pinch-hit in the ninth inning.
