WASHINGTON (AP) — Prosecutors are offering Washington Redskins defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth a deal in a sexual abuse case against him.

Prosecutors have filed paperwork in D.C. Superior Court saying that if Haynesworth agrees to plead guilty to a charge of simple assault, they will drop the sexual abuse charge. If convicted on the sexual abuse charge, Haynesworth faces up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

A message left for Haynesworth’s attorney, A. Scott Bolden, was not immediately returned Wednesday.
Haynesworth has until May 17 to decide whether to accept the plea offer.
