Local police are investigating three homicides that occurred Wednesday evening and early Thursday in Southeast D.C. and Prince George’s County.

The victims in two of the cases have been identified. James William Speaks Jr., 28, of Oxon Hill, was found fatally shot a block from his home. Moeconi Crutchfield, 30, of Southeast Washington, was found fatally shot in the 2400 block of Minnesota Avenue. in Southeast.

A third man, a 7-Eleven employee who has not been named, was fatally shot during a robbery attempt at the Fort Washington convenience store where he worked. The shooting happened just before 3:30 a.m. Thursday in the 9200 block of Oxon Hill Road. Police on Thursday afternoon released a surveillance photo and video footage of the attacker that was taken at the store.

Police said a second employee witnessed the killing and is cooperating with investigators. The suspect left a trail of money behind that started in the 7-Eleven parking lot.

Prince George’s County police said officers found Mr. Speaks suffering from a gunshot wound in the 4400 block of Wheeler Road around 7 p.m. Wednesday. Nearly three hours later, Metropolitan Police officers found Mr. Crutchfield suffering from gunshot wounds about three miles away in Southeast.

The shootings bring the number of criminal homicides this year to 38 in Prince George’s County and 36 in the District, department spokesmen said.
