James Sylvester Caroline, a 53-year-old D.C. man, was indicted on capital murder and weapons charges for the July murder of an Arlington jewelry store owner.

Mr. Caroline was first arrested and charged with the fatal armed robbery in August, days after it happened. Police had initially picked him up for probation violation charges, but he was soon charged with the more serious crime.

Police found jeweler Tommy Kin Mo Wong, 52, shot to death behind the counter of his store in the 3200 block of Columbia Pike in the early hours of July 28. Police believe Wong had been killed the previous day.

As police began investigating the incident, they found an image of the suspect, a black man in his 50s wearing a construction vest, on surveillance video.

Mr. Caroline will appear in court on Thursday to set a trial date.
