Checking in on athletes from the District, Maryland and Virginia in the London Olympics:

Karen O’Connor (The Plains, Va.) was tied for 24th and Will Coleman (Gordonsville, Va.) was 45th among 74 riders Monday after the cross country portion of equestrian eventing. The three-part competition concludes Tuesday with the jumping event. O’Connor, 54, is the oldest member of the U.S. team. She won silver in team eventing in Atlanta in 1996 and bronze in the same event in Sydney four years later.

* Margot Shumway and Sarah Trowbridge of the Potomac Boat Club finished third in their heat in women’s double sculls rowing. They’ll be in Tuesday’s repechage with another chance to make Friday’s final.

* Caroline Queen (Darnestown, Md.) placed 17th in the women’s kayak slalom heats, missing a berth in the semifinals by two slots.

* The U.S. Elliott 6m boat skippered by Anna Tunnicliffe (Old Dominion) lost to an Australian boat Monday in its fourth round-robin race. Round-robin matches continue through Saturday.
