Prince George’s County police say a woman falsely claimed to be the driver who crashed a car into an apartment building this weekend, attempting to take the blame for her husband.

Police say they determined that 36-year-old Akoswa Haynes was lying when she told police she crashed her car into an apartment building on Riverdale Road around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Police determined the actual driver was Mrs. Haynes‘ husband, 39-year-old David Archbald Smith.

Police made the determination about the actual driver after receiving a tip from a local television news reporter.

Mr. Smith has been cited for driving without a license among other things. Mrs. Haynes was cited for knowingly giving false accident report information.
