If an upcoming city election in Detroit sees slow voter turnout, blame it on the billboards. Some of the 14 that were rented to advertise the looming election and entice voters to participate, unfortunately gave the wrong date.

The election’s Nov. 5. The billboards put it at Sept. 2, The Detroit Free Press reported. Detroit City Clerk Janice Winfrey said the error was noted over the weekend, and will soon be fixed. Eleven of the billboards were bought at city expense.

The other three came as a bonus from the company that manages the billboards, International Outdoor, The Detroit Free Presse said. “It’s a mistake,” Ms. Winfrey said on Monday. “People make mistakes. International made such. I saw it Saturday. I called them.”

The president of the company said the errors would be corrected by Tuesday morning, unless it rained. “Our installers cannot work in the rain of any sort,” said Randy Oram, the company chief, in The Detroit Free Press. “Again, thank you for understanding.”
