TORONTO (AP) - Robby Gordon’s truck series has picked up a pair of former champions to run at Toronto.

Both Paul Tracy and Jimmy Vasser will race in the Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks series, which is owned by Gordon, on the temporary street course at Toronto. Tracy is only scheduled to run Sunday, but Vasser is expected to race both Saturday and Sunday.

For Tracy, the 2003 CART Series Champion, it’s a chance to compete again in front of his hometown fans for the first time since 2011. Tracy has three wins in 22 starts on the Toronto course.

“I’m thrilled to race with Robby Gordon’s Stadium SUPER Truck Series in my hometown of Toronto this weekend. I’ve been a fan of the SST events this year and have a good bit of experience in off-road vehicles at the Glamis (Calif.) Sand Dunes, so I’m hoping to bring some added excitement to my fans in Toronto,” Tracy said.

“I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel and kicking Robby’s butt around the track with the `chrome horn’ just like the old times.”

Vasser, the 1996 CART champion and co-owner of Tony Kanaan’s Indy car at KV Racing Technology, has 13 starts at Toronto. He’ll drive the Traxxas No. 12 this weekend, and has experience driving off-road vehicles in Baja-style desert racing.

“With Paul, Robby, and P. J. (Jones) out there it will be just like the old times in the CART/Champ Car Series,” Vasser said. “I’ve driven a Class 1 buggy a few times down at Baja, so I’ll use that experience gained, along with my CART background here. I’m hoping to put together a good run and capture my first win on the streets of Toronto.”

The series, in which drivers drift through the corners and launch over metal jumps at heights reaching 50 feet in the air, runs after Saturday’s IndyCar series race and before Sunday’s IndyCar race.
