A Forestville resident shot and injured a man who attempted to force his way into the man’s apartment late Thursday night, Prince George’s County police said.

The man was “under the influence of some sort of drugs” when he went door-to-door banging on the doors of multiple apartments in the 3300 block of Walters Lane, police spokesman Cpl. Larry Johnson said.

“One resident opened the door to investigate and that’s when the suspect forced his way inside,” Cpl. Johnson said.

The resident had his gun in hand as the two got into a scuffle and he shot the intruder, police said.

After the shooting, the intruder fled and forced his way into another nearby apartment. After police arrived, he was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The man’s name has not been released because he has not yet been charged with a crime.

Police said the resident’s gun was legally owned.
