PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) - An ice cream man who was living in Pittsfield when he was charged with trying to hire someone to kill his estranged wife has pleaded guilty to lesser charges and been sentenced to time served.

Recep Sarikcioglu (rej-EP’ sah-REEK’-chee-OG’-loo), who owns and operates an ice cream truck, pleaded guilty Monday to charges including assault and battery and soliciting someone to commit arson.

The Berkshire Eagle (https://bit.ly/1koNXot ) reports that a charge of solicitation to commit murder will be dismissed if he stays out of trouble for two years.

Prosecutors say Sarikcioglu was in jail for violating a restraining order when he offered another inmate $10,000 to either cut the brakes on his wife’s car or tamper with the natural gas line at her home.

His lawyer says his client learned from his experience.
