HART, Mich. (AP) - A police report into the death of a 70-year-old West Michigan man shows he was unable to flee a fast-moving fire he started last week in his Oceana County backyard.

The Muskegon Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1iPEmEQ ) Monday that Roger Kludy used gasoline to burn brush outside his Hart home, about 60 miles northwest of Grand Rapids.

Police say the fire spread Tuesday to the surrounding grass and Kludy, who uses a prosthetic leg, could not run away quickly enough. A next-door neighbor stomped out a path through the flames to get to Kludy and dragged him from the fire.

Kludy suffered burns and later died at a Grand Rapids hospital.
