KALALAU, Hawaii (AP) - Rescue workers in Kauai have recovered the body of hiker who went missing in Kalalau Valley this week.

Kauai police said in a statement Saturday that rescuers found the man’s body deep in the valley Thursday.

A friend of the missing man told firefighters they had set out Tuesday to hike into the valley from the beach, where they had been camping. He said the terrain became dangerous and he turned back, but his friend continued hiking and hadn’t returned to the beach.

Rescue crews spotted the man’s body from the air.

An autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause of his death. Police do not suspect foul play in the case.
