MANCHESTER, Ky. (AP) - Investigators have released the 911 call made after two turkey hunters were shot in Clay County.

WYMT-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1pir1xO) Chad Bullock was hunting in the Fogertown community with the two who were hit with a shotgun blast. Bullock was not injured and called 911. The call starts by Bullock telling the dispatcher his two friends have been shot and are in “bad pain.”

Later, he says of the shooting, “I don’t know if they could see us or not. I don’t know if they was intentionally shooting or they shot at something or whatever.”

The dispatcher asks about the men’s injuries and Bullock says, “One passed out. One passed out. Hurry. Come on. I need help now.”

One of the injured, 28-year-old Brian Griffin, died after being air-lifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Clay County radio announcer Earl Owens said Griffin was a standout basketball player in high school but also very humble about his abilities.

Clay County head coach Robert Marcum, who worked with Griffin, described him as a “typical country boy.”

“He loved to fish. He loved to hunt,” Marcum said. “He loved to play sports. He was very competitive. Just a great guy and I’m going to miss him. And this community and county are going to miss him.”

Griffin leaves behind a wife and two children.

Another man, 21-year-old Jason Roberts, was injured in the blast.

Clay County Sheriff Kevin Johnson has said investigators are treating the shooting as an accident.

“At this point in the investigation, we honestly do believe that this individual was shooting at what he believed was a turkey,” he said.

But whoever fired the shot could face charges for running away.
