PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Senate is considering a bill that would create a special Boston Bruins license plate.

Sen. Maryellen Goodwin’s bill would create a special plate that would raise money for the team’s charitable foundation. Senators had been scheduled to vote on it Wednesday, but rescheduled it for next week.

If approved, the plates would cost an additional $40 over the regular vehicle registration fee. Half of the money would go to the foundation to support its work with Rhode Island-based charities. The rest would go to the state’s general fund.

The plates will be issued only if there are at least 900 pre-paid orders.

Rhode Island already offers plates supporting the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
