FORT PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - The annual horse races in Fort Pierre at the Stanley County Fairgrounds have begun.

KCCR-AM reports the races started Saturday and will continue for the next two weekends.

Dennis Booth is the track’s manager. Booth says the betting handle last year was between $30,000 and $40,000.

He says crowds last year were strong and the good weather made a difference. He says the quality of the horses this year is expected to be strong.

No races are scheduled for Easter Sunday.
