PORT GIBSON, Miss. (AP) - Pattison Community Water Association in Claiborne County will received $191,500 to paint two standpipes.

U.S. Rep. Bennie G. Thompson, D-Miss., announced the funding Tuesday. The Department of Agriculture Rural Development approved a loan of $108,000 and a grant of $83,500 through the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program.

Officials say one standpipe had not been painted in 20 years and the second standpipe has not been painted since its construction in 1979.

The standpipes supply water to fire hoses.

Officials say it is important to paint these tanks as a recent inspection revealed that failure of these tanks could leave 300 customers without water.
